Urania Christy Tarbet to Critique Member’s Pastels
Founder/President Emeritus of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS), Urania Christy Tarbet, has offered to do a critique of pastel paintings by SPS members. What a great way to prepare for the spring membership show scheduled to start on May 4th! Members may bring one or two completed or in-progress paintings to be evaluated, and depending on the number participating, Urania will review one or both paintings as time allows. This is a great learning opportunity, and we are so grateful for this gracious member’s generosity in sharing her years of experience and expertise in this way..

Location: Raleys meeting room, 3935 Park Drive, El Dorado Hills

Spring Plein Air Paint-out
Enjoy a paint-out on the beautiful park-like property of Joyce and Brad Martin off El Dorado Road in Placerville, starting at 9:00 a.m. The scenery includes large trees, a pond with ducks, creek with bridges, garden areas with flowers (depending on weather), a barn, antique tractors, orchard (possibly in bloom), and various art objects here and there. Picnic tables and bathroom facilities are available, so bring your lunch and stay as long as you like. If the weather turns foul, we will possibly have an alternative date of May 22nd, but for now, plan to pack your stuff and join us for a fun day of painting on April 17th in a spot that will display spring at its finest!

Location:
100 Whitcomb Way, Placerville. From Highway 50, take El Dorado Road south. Whitcomb Way will be on your right, a little less than a mile from the freeway, and is a narrow road just beyond Silver Lode Dr. and before Mother Lode Drive. The road leads directly into the Martin’s property.

Contact:
Call Kathy Hall (620-3400) to let her know if you plan to come, and to get further information if needed.

Kanaka Valley Plein Air Paint-out
The Kanaka Valley is newly protected land offering beautiful oak woodlands. It was named for the Native Hawaiians known as Kanakans who came to California just before the gold rush. They settled in the valley and said it reminded them of their native land. There are acres of blue oak woodland, valley oak woodland, blue oak foothill pine, and montane hardwood, as well as 100 acres of riparian habitat along Jills Creek and Crocker Creek, large meadows and in a few spots distant visits of the Sierras. There are no bathrooms or water so plan accordingly. Plan to walk a short distance for the better views. If cancelled by rain, the following Friday, May 21st will be the backup date.

Location:
The Kanaka Valley is located in the central Sierra foothills in western El Dorado County, north of Highway 50 and southeast of Folsom Lake -- access is from Kanaka Valley Road off Deer Valley Road.

Contact:
Call Kathy F Levenson (530-676-8532) to let her know if you plan to come, and to get directions.
